It's one of ProWritingAid's excellent articles, and full of good tips, as usual.

And it's making me wonder about my own work.

Do all works need to hold the reader from the very word go? Well, yes, I think they do. Not always in the same way, and not always with a boom-bang of a murder, a kidnapped child, a car crash. But somehow, we have to make the reader care enough to read further.

Is there sufficient tension? Do we need to up the ante?
